| Kaluk Village Road |
Have you ever traveled on a hilly road and wondered if that was plucked right out of a desktop wallpaper? If not then you might consider taking a ride down the endless winding roads in the himalayas.
It's sometime hard to imagine that there's such a place in the world. The serene green surroundings and the breathtaking ravines. If you have never driven on the Himalayan roads then it's an adventure as well!
Different Himalayan regions boast of different scenic beauty. The beauty transforms with the altitude. There are different kind of vegetation at different altitudes. You get to see the vegetation changing from tropical in the foothill of Bengal to a coniferous kind of vegetation as you climb. All in a matter of hours.
The eastern part boasts of more greenery and the climate is a bit damp up there. Still it's pretty much lush green even up in the higher altitudes in Bengal.
Sikkim on the other hands boasts of a little different kind of beauty. The roads are really scary. It's amazing to see how people literally carve out two lanes on a half lane road. The Sikkim mountains are rugged gorgeous beauties. They have sheer deep ravines with majestic rocky mountains. You have a view of the snow peaks from some of the routes also. The route from Kaluk to Ravangla is a heavenly route. The snow peaks gaze at you lovingly for most of the part peeking in and out of the conifers down the winding roads.
The road from zoom to Kaluk is a different beast altogether. There are literally 45 degree inclines and the taxis will literally zzoom you to your destinantion. It might be a little scary to the unaccustomed.
If you plan to visit loleygaon, prepare for a bumpy ride from Siliguri. The roads are not well maintained. But the scenery is awesome. The winding roads go up and down through thick mystifying conifer forests.
Well for most of these routes you will find a variety of vehicles at your disposal, but keep in mind mist of them do not have the basic security like airbags or even seat belts in them. Also it might be wise to take a bigger suv class vehicle as the smaller vehicles often are harsh on people with travel sickenss.
But remember no matter which route you take, keep your mind open and enjoy to the fullest. You are on vacation dudette!
